My grandmother died this week. The viewing was tonight. I was amazed by the stories we were told about how she had touched other people’s lives. Some of these stories were about the simplest kindnesses she did for other people. To Grandma, they were necessities. She wouldn’t have things any other way.

I am amazed at the impact one person can have on the lives of others. I am surprised by the little things that people remember and treasure in their hearts. And I am amazed by the kindness of people, especially when you need them.

Sometimes your sense of wonder just needs a little recharge. I was driving to a meeting last week (April) when I came into a bit of a valley. It has been pretty cold and we have had frost several mornings. But this area was a winter wonder land. Everything was white, the houses, the fields, the trees. It was an amazing site. And just like that, I was past it. Things went back to the dusting of frost I had seen the rest of the trip. It really did take my breath away. And I would have missed it if I had kept my eyes on the road…

In grad school, the entire department was Mac. A lab tech convinced me to retire my trusty Compaq for a new PowerBook G3. I have never looked back. Sure I work on PC’s. But that is just it. I work on a PC, but I use a Mac. It is just so much easier to get my work done because it works the way I think.
