have clear skin (read all 36 entries…)
no cysts! 1 month ago

NO CYSTS RIGHT NOW! those of you with cysts know what i’ve been dealing with, and right now I have none! i have some surface inflammation but no dormant volcanoes under my skin!

i had reintroduced benzyl peroxide to my routine, as a spot treatment, and then as a once a week neutrogena mask. the mask burned my face today, so its definitely time to cut back on that. i seem to develop sensitivities rather than build up tolerances for medications and treatments.

anyway, im thinking of changing my moisturizer. i use clinique moisture gel right now because its the only thing i’ve tried that doesnt feel tacky on my face AND doesnt leave my skin feeling tight. problem is it makes my face flush red when i put it on. has anyone tried philosophy hope in a jar for dry sensitive skin? i like the ingredient list so far: my main rule is to get products with the shortest lists possible and glycerin in the first five ingredients.

I stirred my compost bin a bit today and the stuff from the bottom was nice and dark. I can’t wait to use it on next years garden!

run two miles
almost there 2 months ago

today i ran one mile, rested, ran 0.5 mile, then hiked uphill and back down again (0.8 mile). i kinda wanted to push myself to do a full two miles today but decided not to risk any injuries by pushing myself too far too soon. two of my sisters are more serious runners, and even at 26, little sister wants to do what her older sisters do.

did it! 2 months ago

instead of hiking mt misery first, I just got on the creek trail and ran the full length of one mile in about nine minutes. on to the next goal: run two miles

my tomato plant is taller than the railing on my balcony, but no flowers and definitely no tomatoes yet. maybe soon?

spent a morning with the shredder getting rid of old documents, and found that i didn’t even need new folders, just relabel some old ones.

ok 2 months ago

so according to mint.com, $210 fell into the cash/atm category in july. I’m pretty sure most of it went to things like sandwiches and turnpike tolls, and definitely some for trainfare, bus fare, laundry, and dinners out, but this month i’m going to know for sure!

it’s the little bits that come out of the atm and go for little expenses that i’ve lost track of!

eat more local food (read all 2 entries…)
intimidating 2 months ago

I’ve been kind of intimidated by the madhouse feel of the local farmers market. I finally went with my husband this weekend and got some beef franks for lunches. I really hope to make it more of a habit!

yay 2 months ago

today i hiked .8 mile (uphill and down again), then ran 0.5 mile, walked 0.1 mile, ran another 0.5 mile and walked 0.5 mile back to the start of the loop. the one tenth i walked was the small hill near the dam at the end of the creek trail.

be able to do a full left split
progress is slow 2 months ago

but noticeable. since ive added running and biking to my activities, i only do yoga once or a twice a week. but today i noticed that i’m definitely closer to this goal than i was in june!

Run one mile (read all 3 entries…)
i just started 2 months ago

running, and on friday i ran one half mile before i got to a hill. i go to a nearby national park, hike up and down a hill, then run on a level floodplain creek trail.

running is a new addition to my other activities like biking, hiking, yoga, and the elliptical machine. now and then i’ll putter about on the husbands weight machine too.

remove the word "should" from my vocabulary (read all 3 entries…)
similar to "be still" 2 months ago

this is also tough in summer. I feel I “should” be productive, be doing so much. I need to be careful that I do what I want to do and what is good for me to do, instead of shaming myself with what I think I “should” be doing

be still (read all 3 entries…)
both 2 months ago

easier and more difficult in summer when teachers like me have off. more time and less structure takes some getting used to. it’s tempting to fill up my days with as much business as I can, but I’m more free to work in time to be still, to take a bike ride, to go hiking, to do yoga.

sigh 3 months ago

went on vacation, got a bit of sunburn even though my husband didnt. guess thats the effect of the retin-a making my skin more sensitive. after the sunburn though, i stopped getting spots for a bit. my face was all red and leathery, but no new spots. i got a facial at a spa to exfoliate my face and the sunburn was gone, but now i have more spots than ever. lots and lots of tiny surface whiteheads. i really hate my face.
