How I did it: Volunteer with Earthwatch and sign up for the Macaws of the Peruvian Amazon expedition: http://www.earthwatch.org/exped/brightsmith.html Read how I did it…
The will I’m writting is a bit unusual because it includes a pet trust for the care of my birds after I’m gone.
I ran for the 1st VP position, which is also the chair of the political action committee. My local is not very politicaly active, and the incumbent has resisted any of my previous suggestions to try to get our membership more involved. The last straw was the night of the meeting that we were both nominated, we went out for a beer afterwards. He wrote down some of the ideas I mentioned. The following week I wasn’t able to attend the exec board meeting, and in the minutes I read that he said “after the general meeting he received some new ideas” and then suggested that we do one of the ideas that I gave him. He did not give me credit for the idea, even when I asked him about this. I got good feedback from some of the people that voted for me, encouraging me to not give up, because they do not feel represented by the “pale, male, and stale” good ‘ol boys club.
