Well, turns out that over the holidays a good friend who lives in Boston (my reason for visiting in the first place) got engaged and is getting married in October, so barring some crazy accident or what-not, I’ll be going to Boston for her wedding. It’ll only be a weekend, but that will have to do for now!

How I did it: I had been meaning to visit a friend for a while, and was saving slowly, when she announced she was getting married and invited me to the wedding. Of course I leapt at the opportunity to go! So I booked a cheap ticket (yay for Jetblue) and went out for 3 days. Didn't get to do as much touristy stuff as I had wanted, but it was nice to see what I did. I'd like to go back at some point. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I made friends with a girl who lives out in the suburbs, and there was an event going on, an Umaimono & Sweets Fair, that sounded interesting to both of us. We arranged to meet up, and she helped with transportation and let me chill at her house for a bit. We went and had lunch, and shopped in the grocery part, and spent a fair amount of time in the bookstore. Getting home was reverse of getting there; she drove me to the statio… Read how I did it…
How I did it: It took about 3 weeks for me to furnish my room due to delivery and processing times. I shopped around for a while first; checked out Craigslist and kijiji for items, but not having a car made the possibility of picking things up less likely, so I decided to look for places that delivered. I got my mattress from American Mattress, as my housemate went there and I mentioned that, and as I was a student, the guy took $40 off the price of th… Read how I did it…

Knocked a 3rd one off the list, though I just had to add it, too! Awake Cafe just opened up in early December, but that was finals so I didn’t have time to make it out there, and then I was home and not in Chicago.
I went there on Friday, and it was a lovely little shop. The decor is nice, I love the large tables and it’s very welcoming. They’re only open until 9pm, though, but I can deal with that, especially on the weekends.
It’s charming, and cozy, with just the right amount of light. And as it’s new, it’s not super busy, meaning more space for me to study and spread my stuff out on the table without feeling guilty.
I’ll definitely go back!
I’ve finished semester one, and have 15 months to go until graduation in March 2010. I have 6 months of classes, then 3 months of practicum, then 6 more months of class. Time will fly by!
