find my family

basically I was watching this program called ‘Tony: I’ve lost my family’.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ly0z2/Tony_Ive_Lost_My_Family/

it was about a boy, who lost his dad at a very young age and then was kicked out of his mum’s home. since he was 16, since then he has been living in hostels until the council gave him a flat to live on.

The impressive thing is, he is now 18 and sets out to find the history of his dad and his long lost brother who he hasn’t seen for 11 years. because his dad died when he was really young, he couldn’t remember him or his full name. He just only knew what his mother told him and that was, he was a really bad dad, who was abusive to his mother and used to hit her all the time.

as well as trying to find his dad’s history, long lost brother, he also wants to find himself his first full time job.
The programme goes through the stages he goes through to accomplished his goals and every day troubles that occurs when living as a teenager in the real world without his family.

In the end, he his brother finds him on Bebo and as you guess it, he managed to reunite with all his family on his dad’s side. on top of that, it turns out his dad was never abusive (like his mum told him), he was actually so depressed, he committed suicide.

Having watched the entire program, it really hit me. I never knew my dad, I don’t even know his full name and I would really like to find out if I have any family on his side e.g. grandparents, cousins or even a half brother/ sister I haven’t even met.

all I know is, that my parents divorced when i was 3 and according to my mum, he was a wife beater, an alcoholic and a gambler. now having seen that video about Tony- How am i to know if everything my mum tells is correct?
I was too young to even remember a memory of my dad.
when i was 14, i was later told by my mum that my dad died of liver failure. Im not even sure if this is true, or 100% correct.

things just don’t add up and no one on my mum side ever mentions my dad or anything. its like he never existed despite my mum and dad had three children together.

apply for camp america

So basically I have been wanting to go to this since my first ever gap year in September 2006. I’m now going in my second year of university and next summer is my only and last summer left before I have become a graduate , so there won’t be enough time for travelling!!

Camp American applications open in August, although I might apply through BUNAC but they are really the same thing.

So yeah, it costs about £700 to go but you work that money back at the camp, so you you’re kinda getting a free flight and trip to american.

hoping to do arts and crafts with the kids. I love working with kids, mainly because I’m a big kid myself!

So yeh, after that I hope to trek around America, properly travel up to New York (need to see the highline park) and go through canada ( Vancouver). who knows. who knows.
