How I did it: I took a sample of the aquarium water to my local pet store and asked them to test it for chloramine and nitrates. The water got a clean bill of health, but I did buy stress coat products to treat the water. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I had had a major fish die-off and wanted to be extra sure to avoid that in the future. I emptied half the tank, stirred up the gravel and vacuumed out the waste.
