not feeling it

I got my grade for “the Plane to Freedom” yesterday…
B+
I guess it deserved it…I thought it was a decent story, but maybe writing just isn’t for me.
I desperately wish it was though, I read all these short story anthologies by authors I admire, but then sit down to write my own and fail miserably. The beginning was good, but the end of it was admittedly terrible. I didn’t have much time to finish writing it, and it was a little sketchy and unbelievable.
I need serious help

getting better
After reading several books of short stories, including J.D. Salinger’s ‘Nine Stories’, plus the added prompting of a school project for my gifted class, I have finally picked up the pencil and paper to begin writing anew.
I have always been told that the best way to get into regular writing is to journal…which did not work at all for me. I can only churn out a decent story when the inspiration strikes, and it is then often on a random sheet of paper or the margin of my histroy notes.
Here’s me other problem: I read too much.
I read so many things and ‘ingest’ (so to speak) so many books and individual plot lines that I often cannot write my own material without the ideas of other authors seeping in. Everything from character names to mini plot tangents to major story-changing events and themes from other books, poems, and stories cloud my ability to produce something that is uniquely mine.
The story I began writing today is called “The Plane To Freedom”. Maybe it will amount to something…who knows for sure
