Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

learn to make the perfect loaf of bread! (read all 2 entries…)

I have learned to make cordage from various materials. I have made it from old jean material, this grass stuff, plastic bags, and cedar bark. I have so much more to learn in this avenue, though!! I want to learn all I can, its soo cool. Then, I would be able to make ropes out of just stuff I find outdoors.

write everyday (read all 2 entries…)

I just read this book called, “Outliers,” and this book talks about success. It claims that to be successful you need to have 10,000 hours in your field. So, now I plan on eating, sleeping, and breathing writing. I will write on here, I will write in my journal, I’ll start a blog and write in there, write poetry for class, and work on short fiction. In short, I will write constantly! I’m gonna be building up some calluses for sure on my pen hand.

Winter hiking

In the winter everything becomes beautiful in a new way. I always feel like I’m hiking entirely new places! Also, when there’s snow, you can snowshoe, cross country ski, or sled through your favorite outdoor places. And, every hill becomes a massive slide, especially if there’s ice! I love winter. The world becomes and even bigger playground.

The Kazoo!!!

My friend and I bought kazoos. We play them all the time now. I’m pretty sure it just annoys people. But, we wanted an instrument that is easy to learn and almost impossible to mess up. Go kazoos!

Cliff jumping

Highest jump is 45 feet so far, but this year I’m going for one of the 60 footers. Hopefully I live through it, haha. It really is a great time and once you get the hang of it, it isn’t too challenging at all. You just sort of have to trick your body into leaping into free space and then crashing into freezing water. What a rush, though once you do it. Highly recommended. I’d really love to try this somewhere with even higher cliffs. My favorite so far is a 45 foot drop next to a waterfall. Its beautiful :)

My friend Hailey is teaching me how to knit. I already kind of have it down, and next step is purling! and then I can make my own hats. Also, I hear that because of the oil spill, there is an organization that knits sweaters for penguins to keep them from picking at their feathers. What? That is awesome. I want to do that.

Ice climbing

For those who don’t know, Ice climbing would be when you climb frozen waterfalls, areas where dripping water freezes, or high moss areas, where the water that the moss collects freezes. There’s not really capabilities to do this all over the world, but I’m lucky to live in Michigan where it is possible. I just bough some mountaineering boots and my crampons are already here! I can’t wait for the season to start!! I am officially an officer of the club, even though I haven’t really ice climbed a whole hell of a lot. I think they just wanted to include me and needed a lady in the mix. But, whatever, this is gonna be fun!

Echo Lake and Hogback

Echo Lake was a new one and its was beautiful. I mean, wow. A lake surrounded by cliff faces and fall trees.Hogback I’ve hiked in the past, but never in the fall, it was gorgeous up there with all the trees and the blue mamma Superior in the background.

Cold water surfing

Most exhilarating thing I have ever done! Absolutely amazing and refreshing.

Bike Commute

I use my bike to go to and from classes everyday, but I never use it for fun trips anymore. It’s gotten kind of rusty at this point, and it doesn’t shift very well. First gear is more like a five, so climbing to the top of the hill I live at, everyday has become exhausting.

I don’t know what this is anymore. I used to believe that it would always be a fiction novel, now I’m not so sure. It could be a poem, it could be a short story, it could be a guide for hiking the North Country Trail. Whatever it is, though, it will be that thing that I worked harder on than anything else in my entire life, not the one I necessarily make any money off of.

This will always be my goal, even though I do this all the time now. Marquette is the most beautiful place

go on an unplanned trip
Pictured rocks

I went on a backpacking trip to pictured rocks. My ex-boyfriend and I just randomly decided to do it. It was really fun.

Fall in love

I fell in love with an amazing person and we were together for a year and a half (a very long time for me). Then, things started falling apart, I still love him, but its better that I broke up with him. Maybe one day things will work out again, maybe not. Good year, though, maybe best of my life.

eat healthier

So, I got this thing called a sprouter. It’s sort of like a plastic cup and you grow your own sprouts in it. I grew some last month it worked great and they taste amazing. Their supposed to be highly rich in nutrients and vitamins. I was eating them raw, but their great in a salad. I used them to make fresh-baked spring rolls. They were awesome if I may say so myself ; )

read more classics

I’m really considering giving up on Moby Dick. The stories are true: Moby Dick is long and hard ; ) But seriously, I haven’t even made it half-way through. I think I’m going to give up on that and read a different one before it entirely halts my progress.

Turn lights off on Earth Day Sat. March 28, 2009

Thanks for inviting me! I will definitely do this!

Justin Guitar

Justin Guitar offers free lessons. It’s really great. I’ve been doing the finger gym everyday. I’m also trying to learn Shine on You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd. Here’s a link to:

I’ve been taking lessons and I’m really improving, but I have to stop soon cause I’m broke : ( and my guitar instructor was so cute and sweet. Sad.

be at peace

many doctors are recommending meditation as medicine. It can cure many issues and can increase intelligence. I’m sorta a meditation activist. There’s really no down side.
