give up smoking (read all 3 entries…)
Reality bites (shared) 22 months ago

I’ve been agonising over this for far too long. Various events helped fuel the content but it’s really about now that I felt the pressure of truth and transparency upon me. Wanting and always being a ‘man’ of my ‘word’ I knew that this particular thing was not up-to-date, I am about to alter that…

Yeah, I started smoking again, not sure who else to blame in entirety though Marilyn, Nesar and temptation are high on the list of potential suspects!

So, after having given up I’m back to being a smoker that wants to quit – upside is that I still want to quit.

Things have been how they’ve been, and since July they’ve been different – that’s helping me recognise a) the denial that I gave up and started again and b) making contemplate when to give up.

I’ll do my best to keep you updated.

Inspiration 2 years ago

Abbé Pierre became famous during the extremely cold winter of 1954 in France, when homeless people were dying in the streets. Following the failure of the projected law on lodgings, he gave a well-remembered speech on Radio Luxembourg on February 1, 1954, and asked the Figaro, a conservative newspaper which, as he said, was read by “the powerful,” to publish his call:

“My friends, come help… A woman froze to death tonight at 3:00 AM, on the pavement of Sebastopol Boulevard, clutching the eviction notice which the day before had made her homeless… Each night, more than two thousand succumb to the cold, dying without food, without bread, many almost naked…

“Hear me; in the last three hours, two aid centers have been created…”

Biofuels 2 years ago

“Why not build a partnership on biofuels between Europe and Africa and create an alternative market for sugar cane production? Sugar cane is an excellent raw–material for the production of biofuels like ethanol and methanol which can be blended with gasoline or diesel. Today‘s combustion engines run well on a mix of fossil fuels containing 10–15 % ethanol or methanol. And it is not space–age technology but simple existing technology which is not capital intensive. Local sugar mills could be turned into ethanol distilleries, or plants for the production of methanol and electricity. We will need biofuels more and more in the future. People are driving more cars, oil prices are rising, fossil fuels will become more scarce, we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. China, Brazil and India recognise this. Europe and Africa should work together on it as partners.”
