My wedding was the most beautiful day that I will ever remember. Just one problem. IT WAS NOT MY DAY!! I dont know how this happened. This day costed about $23,000. My husband made the horrible mistake of taking money from my mother. Not alot, but enough. Little did we know, but the day now belonged to her too. My mother stressed me out to the point that I understood why deposits were nonrefundable… When she did not get her way, she cancelled my bachelorette party that my sister planned at her house. She also threatened to skip the whole circus because I told one of my brides maids that she could wear her afro. The bridal suite was bigger than the average 3 bedroom condo. I could not enjoy any of this. When I woke up, I just wanted to get this over with. The day before the wedding, I just cried and cried. My friend had to drive me around becuase I was so upset. God bless her…
I have yet to look at all of my wedding pictures and video. I know that they are beyond beautiful. Looking on the outside in, everyone LOVED my wedding. But, with everything that I went through, I can always say that I forgive, but I still have a little bit of bitterness. I have a sister and my mother will be mother of the bride, but I can never be a bride again. That day was stolen from me. On top of all of that, my mom had the nerve to confront me a couple of months after the wedding because she did not feel that she got enough of the spot lite at my wedding!!!
If I could sum up the day, I would say wonderful. I married the best man in the world and I that is what I have to remember.
Now, the caveats..
Keep this your day. Do what is best for you and no one else. Once these 24 hours are gone, that it.
*Dont spend too much. Analyze your guest list. My plates costed about $150. The food was wonderful (lobster, steak, etc.)... The problem was that mostly everyone we invited was either just getting a job, or just losing a job, lol. We only got about $3,000 back!! About 70% of our guests did not even give a card. Yeah, I know…it’s time to reevaluate our circle of friends..
Thank God, we are not broke. We have great jobs and a couple of properties between us. But everyone is not so lucky! *WEDD WISELY!
ps: anyone need a wedding dress from a Manhattan boutique?! I ran off the train to get that sucker! Now, it’s in my mom’s basement..
I went to Spain for my honeymoon in June ‘07. It was so beautiful! We stayed in a small town on the coast, Denia. This town is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. The beach is never crowded and finding nasty food is impossible there. The marina is new and too beautiful! When we wanted a lil action, we took one hour train ride into Benidorm, Spain. This is one of the most visited areas in Spain. I personally, did not like it. If I want the busy city feeling, I will stay home and go to NYC… We also went to Barcelona and that was awesome. Art is everywhere in Spain. The bus ride was 6 hours and alot of people forgot to take a shower…
I loved Denia, but it took so long to get home. We took two planes, a train, bus, and cab to get there. We left from NYC on Friday afternoon and did not get to Spain until early Sunday morning! The airplane food made me sick, and that has never happened. BRING YOUR PEPTO BISMO!!!
Overall, I loved Spain. What I did not like….
The cost: We spent about $1350.00 (US) to get 1,000 Euros. I can remember when the American dollar held weight outside of the, US. Dont let this discourage you, because at the rate the US is going, it will only get worse!!!
Hygene: As an American, I am taught to wash my hands with soap. I was reading a rough guide book concerning Spain. It said to carry hand sanitizer everywhere because we would be lucky to find soap in a restauant (dont think too much about that, or you’ll never eat out…).... When I see how people just walk out of the bathrooms without thinking to wash their hands, I wonder how everyone is not sick!
But, like I said, great trip. We will be back on our 10 year anniversary!
