Getting in is the hardest part and you will have to pass a variety of rigorous selection tests including the mental, physical and even social. The Regular Commissions Board will try and find chinks in your armour and then drive a wedge in to see if you suffer from any major character flaws. They can’t afford to send anyone to RMAS who’s going to cave in after the first few weeks (and believe me you will want to!).
Anyway – throughout the year you will face lengthy exercises, physical exhaustion, sleep deprivation (...not pleasant at all), shouting, cleaning, ironing, sword drill, rifle drill, marching, more shouting, exams, essays, some more cleaning, adventure training, weapon practice (rifle, pistol, grenade), competitions, sport and most importantly a level of cameraderie that is unsurpassed in civilian life. This is truly a life altering experience but it takes true commitment and a bull headed, no-quit, 110% approach.
I did it – as can you. Get down the recruitment office and book yourself a familiarisation visit! Good Luck.

Have shot all manner of weapons from pistols to automatics to shotguns.
Nothing beats the frantic kick of the tool as it struggles to realese itself from your grip while you keep it dead eye steady and deliver the round to the target.
Go shoot stuff!
