donate hair to Locks of Love
Well underway... 2 years ago

I started growing my hair out over 4 years ago specifically to donate, so now I have plenty to give. I’ve never had long hair before but no one I know now has ever seen me with short hair. It will be a big change for them AND me. I’m just not sure when I’ll be ready to take that leap.

Learn a third language
Starting Turkish 2 years ago

About a week ago I started learning Turkish in anticipation of my business trip to Slovakia and the holiday I will take in Turkey. This was certainly not on my top 10 list of languages to learn, but it is a great opportunity to start! Maybe I’ll fall in love with Turkey and pursue this further but since it is not a commonly-taught language in the US, it will all be self-study.

Build a solar refrigerator
The full goal is... 2 years ago

In addition to building a solar refrigerator, I want to fully document the process in order to make detailed plans available to anyone else who would like to do this. The most likely type I would make would be an ammonia absorption icemaker but ethanol and charcol would be another option. I’ll need to gather a team of people to help with this, especially for working through some of the chemical and engineering aspects. The ultimate goal would be to make the documentation open source.

build a yurt
Done it, now for the next challenge 2 years ago

I built my yurt totally from scratch including sewing the canvas. It was really an empowering and fulfilling challenge. At the time, I planned on putting together complete documentation so someone else can do it. There are some good books out there but nothing I found gave explicit steps for some of the more challenging aspects of the design process. I think I have my next “thing” to do now! If anyone has questions, let me know. I’ll start digging up info!

start vermicomposting
Vermicomposting now 2 years ago

I’ve been vermicomposting for maybe 3 years now. I haven’t looked recently at all the instructions on the web but it’s really quite easy. I just have a Rubbermaid bin under my kitchen sink. If anyone has questions, let me know.
