Thankfully, I have a leg-up on the language, JavaScript came pretty naturally. But learning the design patterns, and learning class factory method design patters has been my challenge.

4.) requires you to compromise your family obligations.
5.) defines you as a person

You be who you are—the job is just a means to fund your personality. When your job IS your personality, or your job requires you to ignore your family, its time to look for something new.
