Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

carpe diem
Carpe diem, carpe noctem, carpe vitam

Well I should do ‘carpe noctem’,if I can’t do ‘carpe diem’. Yes “seize the night!” Instead of staying awake in bed worrying then do something concrete, perhaps even useful.

Week commencing 10/2/14

Ok so it takes a lot more than a week to ingrain a new habit on average. So this is big ask right off the bat. However let’s begin with this one:-
PDR Plan, Do and Review (Then repeat.)

Plan: to open up last week’s mail in the evening
Do: opened up last month’s worth of mail in the evening
Review: well still need to file etc., tackle that tomorrow!

PDR<-

An acronym for acronym’s sake. This is plan, do and review. Then repeat these three steps. Useful for when you can’t manage much more because one is stressed.

The Sack

I’m full of anxiety about going to work tomorrow. I’m going to have to think fast!

Achieve 3 goals a day
Let's start really easy

Today

1. Vacuum cleaning
2. Cut back lawn
3. Shopping
4. Meditate 5 mins
5. Back stretches

If I get any 3 of the above done then this is a pass.

Journals don't have to daily...

...but are you really keeping if it’s regularly more than a week between entries – I would say not!

Chapter 3 Right wing republic

Took a sock to the jaw and I spotted a fine red mist spraying across my vision.’First blood!’, yelled the referee, ‘put down your weapons’. I unclenched my fists and so did my opponent. She put her shirt back on over her bra and made her way out of the boxing ring.

‘I can never hit a girl!’, I explained to the assembled onlookers.
The referee came over to me and told me to get up.
‘Look bud you can either make excuses or you can make it work. Decide which quickly or the decision will be made for you’, he added.

So this was it I thought, this training camp had elements of Amishness, Draconia and Sparta in it. This 3 day long trial to see who makes the new intake was going to be tougher to pass than I thought.

You are wondering what this year long programme is designed to do? To make citizens. Yes most poeple who live in this country have citizenship of it but are not citizens. Residents most certainly but those who put rights over responsibilities are not citizens in the true sense of the word.

The guy who founded the camp had read Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers and the political / social system featured therein resonated with him.

win the lottery
Unless I have completely misunderstood...

...the pop science aspects of quantum theory then observing things affects the things being observed. From this it is not too far a stretch to suppose that watching the drawing live can have an effect on it. Not sure if we can count second hand (i.e tv) observations. Anyway for those that haven’t won maybe we need to witness the drawings. Yes it is most likely going to have an overall negative effect. But the instance of hitting the jackpot should increase marginally.

Flipper

I said I would make 100 choices as a goal. Haven’t done very many of them yet.

But I can choose to be a flipper. That is to say toss a coin to decide between 2 equally unpalatable alternatives.

Doing this is fulfilling the spirit if not the letter of this goal.

I do not think so. But this is now a subgoal under ‘manage oneself’.
