How I did it: I listened to Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's podcast "Food for Thought" and she inspired me to live compassionately. I did not want to be an angry vegan but I didn't want to be afraid to do what I felt was right just because of what others might think. So far, I’m the only person in my family to have gone to a four year college. In May, I’ll be the first person in my family to have ever graduated from College. Hopefully in September I’ll be the first to go to graduate school. :)
I just went on AlternativeOutfitters.com and ordered eyeliner and mascara from Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC). Both in black. I’m very excited because I’ve been needing eyeliner for a long time but keep putting it off because it use it so rarely. But then when I need it I dont have it! I’m glad I finally decided to get it because since I use it so rarely, it will last a very long time! I’m going to throw out my old mascara. Slowly but surely going 100% vegan! Being completely vegan isn’t just the diet!
Next as far as cosmetics/body products, I need to work on:
eyeshadow, deoderant, a hair smoothing product, razor, and my phone (it’s a blackberry and I didn’t know there was some leather on the back until after I bought it.) :(
I baked my first cake and it was delicious!
My adopted father, Fred’s birthday is on Christmas Eve… so I wanted to bake him a festive cake!
I veganized a gingerbread cupcake recipe and used it for the batter, and then I made tart lemon frosting. I made two layers of the cake and put the frosting in between the layers (it looked pretty!) but I ran out of frosting for the top so I sliced up bananas and layered them to make them look pretty and put some sliced oranges in the center. Then I glazed the fruit with agave nectar to make them look shiny and yummy. Just between my mom, Fred, and I… that whole cake was gone within 24 hours! :)
