Actually, he’s my neighbor’s tree man, but I love him nonetheless.
When I left for class this morning, the hard part of the Kentucky Coffee Tree was done. He was very good, very professional…and remarkably fast. I believe artist would be an appropriate term.
This task is not done…the trees may be “down” when I get home, but we still have mountains of limbs to chip, trunks to be removed (I have a guy who wants to buy them), and lawn to be “picked up” in general. But this is the big (and expensive) part.

I’d been trying to sell my bedframe on CL for quite a while now…on and off. Wouldn’t want to be one of those constant poster types…
I wanted $300 for it…I bought it for $400, had a pain in the ass time getting it home and setup, enjoyed it for a few months and then discovered it was too big for my bedroom. And not exactly my style. Especially now that I have a dog.
Last week, my dad and a friend’s friend reshingled my roof. They did an awesome job, highlighted by the fact that the roof no longer leaks and the place seems to stay warmer, now that they spread out and added insulation.
Anyway, the friend’s friend asked Dad how much I wanted for the bed. Dad asked whether $100 would be about right, and I said “not quite.” He interpreted that to mean too much, when it really meant not enough.
So he sold my bed for $50.
I’m not upset. It’s over and done with, and the bed is out of my house. The guy was a great help around the job, and around the house…ended up cleaning my gutters, raking my leaves, shutting in the attic for the season…and didn’t mind the pain in the ass dog. And Dad gave a good part of the roof to me as a gift…some in materials, most in labor. There’s just no reason to get weird about $250.
But it is a reminder to be careful about communication with my dad. Because we’re totally talking to one other from opposite ends of the spectrum.
(see? nice roof!)

1 card paid off…right before the interest rate kicked in. Yay!
But, I had to buy shingles a few weeks ago, and since they didn’t take Discover, I had to put in on a Mastercard. That I used to pay off every month. So, instead of being down to 2, I’m down to 3.
The good news is that I have a new roof, new insulation, and repaired gutters. Bad news is that I’m in more debt.
I’m going to transfer the MC to the Discover card, since that one has 0% on balance transfers until August or so. It’ll cost about $100, but save me more than that in interest. I hope. Then, pay off the Discover purchase, pay off the other MC, and pay off the Discover transfers.
Just not sure what I’ll be using to pay for day to day expenses through all of this. The correct answer in the 0% MC, but it’s within $500 of the limit right now…which is not a happy place.
So…time to get another 0% card, transfer the first MC balance, use that for living expenses and pay off the other 2? Does this sound like a reasonable plan? D’oh.
