Well, I now have a regular budget, and a few accounts that I juggle money between. With a theoretically fixed amount for frivolous spending per week, I should see money going where it needs to go.
I’ve been spending A LOT on flights to see friends over the last year, and one thing I’ve never really fixed in my head is ‘how much should I spend on fun stuff per week?’. I earn a pretty comfortable wage, but I’ve never really decided that.
Now, with (I think) less that I normally spend set as an amount per week, it actually feels like more, and I enjoy planning impulse purchases possibly more than spending them.
The last thing I need to do is fix up my debit card so that it’s hooked to the right sub-accounts, so I KNOW if I pull that card I’m spending on toys/fun stuff.

Buying Vegan With A Vengeance has been a great starting point here – I’ve been enjoying the act of cooking, especially with a good glass of wine and some podcasts to enjoy while I’m doing it.
Hell, we even picked up some hing powder (asaefoetida if you want a big word for it) on Friday night. If you’re curious, it stinks like no one’s business. Or, possibly, someone’s business.
The next step: broadening the recipes that I’m using in Vegan With A Vengeance, finding a really good local source for things like nutritional yeast, and starting to home-bake nummy vegan desserts.

Well, I’ve done pretty well on this over the last couple of weekends thanks to two interstate trips. One for a very important friend’s thirtieth birthday, which I wouldn’t have missed for the world. The other for a weekend of nerding and high octane silliness in Melbourne.
I miss my friends. I miss Melbourne.
Now I’ve got to pay attention to the micro-transactions – get back into the swing of sending postcards again. I should probably make that a weekly tradition over Saturday breakfast.
Yeah… that works, now that I think of it.
