Apparently, kitchen reno’s are the way to really boost our house value. Plus we’ve been living with a tiny kitchen for waay too long. The thing is, we always planned on moving out and were going to do it always “tomorrow” but it never came! So I kinda wish we’d done this years ago – so here’s the advice! If you are going to do some improvements to your home, do it now so you don’t live uncomfortably in the mean time and have less time to enjoy it!

How I did it: Learning to photograph with a digital camera is really easy because you can take so many photos and make so many mistakes that can just be deleted. I love how easy it is and how I have been able to document our family. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Having the right contractor is key. Plus backups. Ours quit about 90% into the job, so we had to find someone else. Get references!! We were stuck with an awful guy. Read how I did it…
So I’ve been running 2-3 times a week for about a year now, so I figure this has been accomplished – at least for now! I’m running in a half-marathon in two weeks, so the training has been great.
Some thoughts:
1) Don’t push it – take it easy on yourself. I’m super competitive so that was really hard sometimes. I feel like such a loser when I don’t push it, but that is stupid in the long term.
2) Have some reasonable goals that you can keep. I got into this to run a 10k race and that was a great goal. Running 10k is a fairly straightforward goal if you can find the right training.
3) Find people to exercise with. I have been in a running group and that has really really helped. Both with motivation and with knowledgeable advice. You face lots of issues and being able to talk to people about it really rocks. Even when most of the first year I was just listening to my iPod, knowing people were there and I could talk or not talk and just be with them as we ran was really important.
This last weekend I decluttered all the old papers and bills etc that have been piling up in the corner of my home office. It felt great! Filed most of it. The best is that I took to work a big pile of useless papers and shredded it. What fun!! ;-) Now I have to tackle the filing cabinet. I have 5 years of telephone bills filed!! I think that’s crazy! I think I need to buy an industrial shredder for home…
