This is one of those badass, seemingly impossible feats, so I’m gonna do it.
Right now I can stand on my hands, propped against a wall, for about a minute before my arms give out. I can do several “sort of” pushups in this position, but I can’t lower my head all the way down and push myself back up again.
I’d like to get to 3-4 minutes in the handstand position. Work on overhead presses in the gym. Then go for freestanding handstands for at least a minute, before busting out my first ever freestanding handstand pushup. Booya.
It’s gonna take me a while, I’m sure.

I’ve never been able to do this.
I have a cheater’s plan: lose weight. I could stand to lose about 10 lbs easy; 15-20 if I get serious, which I won’t.
Then hit the gym, and do pushups and other bodyweight exercises.
I see this goal as a checkpoint on my way to handstand pushups, another goal of mine.

In high school I ran a 4:21 as my best mile. But now I’m 32 years old. I’m sure I’ll meet my goal of beating 6 minutes, but this one might be out of range for a geezer like me.
Sort of like how Lance Armstrong will never win another Tour de France, or Michael Jordan will never play in the NBA again. It’s not that they are lazy or out of shape or unmotivated. Some things just get tough after a while.
The first thing to slip away is Speed. Still, I’m gonna try for this one. It’s so much sweeter to achieve the impossible.
