oi. this has always been a very touchy topic to myself as i grew up in the south with racism still very active. i witnessed my first cross burning at 12.
By 1619 a million blacks had already been brought from Africa to South America and the Caribbean, to the Portuguese and Spanish colonies, to work as slaves. Fifty years before Columbus, the Portuguese took ten African blacks to Lisbon – this was the start of a regular trade in slaves.
I wish people would read a history book – maybe so many judgments wouldn’t be made. “Americans” didn’t begin it, they just followed suit. The Virginians needed labor to grow corn and tobacco to export. Indians wouldn’t be forced – so they settled on black slaves.
I’m not saying any of this was right – to be brought over in bottoms of boats shackled to each other in spaces so tight as to not be able to even turn around.
In Maryland a law was passed in 1723 providing for cutting off the ears of blacks who struck whites, and that for certain serious crimes, slaves should be hanged and the body quartered and exposed.
humans disgust me.
on to chapter 3.

i’ve finished chapter one. does a little jig. gets down tonight
i’ve read this before. but i want to do it all the way through. i haven’t picked up this book since 2005 for reasons in my heart, but now it’s time to read it.
school’s need to teach the real story. cool it’s great that columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and we get a paid off day from it, but they never speak of the killing that was done in order for columbus to set sail on that, “new world.”
Columbus wrote: ” As soon as I arrived in the “indies, on the first Island which i found, I took some of the native by force in order that they might learn and might give me information of whatever there is in these parts..”
it’s a shame. millions of, “indians” died due to this man and man’s greed.
on to chapter two: drawing the color line.

after pestering for another few weeks i finally sat down with both bosses. first actual REVIEW and raise i’ve ever received. I strive in my adaptability, creativity, quality of work, independence, and initiative. My communication and interpersonal skills need work, but I could have told you that. ;)
not the best raise $ wise, but a total of 12-13% raise this fiscal year. i can’t complain aside from now being in a higher tax bracket. damn the man.

i miss reading. i miss learning. my brains miss it. i could say that i don’t have the time, cause i could be reading right now instead of bitching about wanting to read. ... i don’t have the attention span that i used to. i’m in the middle of at least 5 books. it drives me crazy. litte bit each day – i’ll get there.
