How I did it: I started this goal off small. I didn't just decide to eat vegetarian for a month. Instead I decided to do it for a week, and see where it went from there. How to do the Seattle to Portland (STP) ride

How I did it: I started by buying a bicycle in February 2011, as well as an indoor trainer since the weather in Washington wasn't that great yet. I started riding on the trainer a couple times a week to start building up endurance. In March I began the Cascade Bicycle Club's recommended training schedule, trying to follow it as closely as possible. Volunteering A Green Thumb

I guess I forgot to mark it off, but I spent a Saturday in November planting trees! I found an opportunity through The Nature Conservancy to help restore the area around a salmon stream. I guess a team had come in before and cleared the area of invasive plants (blackberry bushes, etc) to make room for trees and other plants.

So I drove out to Issaquah to met up with a group of a dozen or so people and we started digging holes and filling them with the hundreds of potted vegetation that was donated. I think I must have personally planted 30 – 40 separate plants. It started to rain a bit before we were finished so I ended up quite muddy. It was quite a fulfilling experience!

Last month I made my tenth and eleventh loans, so I’m a quarter of the way there. It seams to be getting much easier to make loans now that they are beginning to be paid off. I can just turn that money around and loan it to someone else!
