I never had the guts to get a real tattoo. Since I have been living in the Middle East, I have gotten several henna tattoos. They last about three weeks and then you can get a new one. Women here and in India get them for their wedding night. It actually looks like lace. I really love it.

How I did it: I have now taken metalsmithing and PMC. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is magical. I would like to continue taking classes in different areas. I hope to take a few this summer when I go home. Read how I did it…
How I did it: We went up on a hot air balloon over Luxor, Egypt. The Hod Hod Air Balloon company is the most experienced company in the area. Safety was definetly an issue because my 13 year old son was with me. The team that had prepared the balloon sang a song as we floated into the barely lite sky. My eyes filled with tears at the beauty before me. We drifted for over an hour, then landed softly. The view was spectacular, the experience unforgettable. Read how I did it…
I went to Bolivia on a mission five years ago. I translated (I speak Spanish fluently) for workshops given on Montessori teaching methods. Approximately 25 teachers attended. Everyone was so loving. It is the only place I’ve visited, besides Cuba, from which I have left sobbing. When I left Cuba, I was leaving family. In my ten short days in Bolivia, the people I met became my brothers and sisters. I will never forget them.
I became a vegetarian 28 years ago. At first, I was a closet vegetarian because I was afraid people would think I was a freak. I was very young (19) and considered other’s opinion of me important. As time passed I started sharing my secret with family and friends and was pleasantly surprised to find that most people supported me. Some brought up concerns of proper nutrition. In a Cuban family, meat is a staple. Roasting a pig in a pit is considered the only true way to celebrate an important occasion.
I am raising my children as vegetarians and my husband joined in a few years after we married. I don’t lecture people on the subject. It simply brings me Peace.
