At last, I tried my hand at brewing beer. Not from scratch, but using a home brew kit. My wife bought me a kit from The beer keg for my birthday. Cool present I thought. Its a complete kit and a dvd provides detailed instructions. Two things to remember – everything must be cleaned thoroughly and you need to choose the right time of year to brew at home. The beer must ferment at a temperature between 18 and 23 degrees. In South Africa, that means in autumn or spring. Its autumn now, and we had perfect weather for brewing a beer. It took about 3 weeks for the initial fermentation and another 2 weeks after bottling for the secondary fermentation. If you follow the instructions, its real easy. I now have 23 liters of beer!!! And the taste is not bad at all. Much like Castle. Thanks to the Coopers guys for making it so easy. Here are a couple of pics.

Ok, changed my mind on the bike to restore. Its now gonna be a Yamaha XS650. Why? Easier to find parts, tons of technical docs available and much cheaper. Can’t decide if I have to do an original restore or a mod. Time will tell…

I’ve promised myself last year I would blog at least once a month. This did not happen. This year will be different. I’ve setup a reminder on Google calendar to help me get into the habit. I guess this ties into one of my other goals – better time management. I do have lots of time to blog, but just don’t do it. I have so many things going on in my live right now, so content is not a problem. There is of course a reason I want to blog regularly. I want to use it as a measure of self improvement. I’m hoping that over a couple of years from now I can read my own words and determine if I’m fighting the same demons or new ones:)
