Once again I am focusing on making an effort every day. I iron my clothes. Makeup is applied. Sunblock, perfume and lotion have all been squirted or dabbed. My hair has never been better.
Nail polish is still something I can’t seem to get done. Someday…
Weight loss and fitness are goals I can’t achieve as quickly. Getting better clothes is another avenue that promises to be productive. I have a wardrobe of rags. Rags that are clean, mended and ironed!

Pretty much I can mark this as done. I put on a completely improved face just about every day before I go outside. It takes me a while, but is time well spent. I feel good when I present myself to the world.
The latest accomplishment was clearing off my dressing table and putting a chair there to sit on in the absence of a matching bench. The bench still needs to be refinished and upholstered. In the meantime, I am sitting. I saw my face reflected in the pretty mirrors. A middle-aged face, it’s true, but a kind and honest face that I like. Now it has makeup on it, too.
An additional sorting of the products I actually use from the extras that only confuse me has helped to make this goal a reality. This is something I plan to do periodically as seasons change or when I want to try something new. I put the extra eye shadows, lipsticks, etcetera in labeled shoe boxes on the shelf. Now I am able to resist buying makeup. It is probably because I know for sure that I have enough. My wishful thinking has turned into reality.

This is a habit that is taking me a really long time to establish. I can see that I have been taught since childhood not to spend time on myself. This puritan self-denial has not been good for my mental health.
I edited the products I use daily and put away the extras in labeled boxes. If I ever need them before the items are too old I’ll have plenty of eye shadows and everything. I’m still sticking with a natural look. I am using a few lipsticks in different formulas: gloss, balm, pencil and actual lipstick. The colors are similar.
I cleared off the dressing table with three part mirror I inherited from my mother. She used it for a desk and had taken the mirrors off. When I sat down in front of the mirrors, a few decorative items on the table top and utilitarian stuff in the drawers, I realized I had rarely seen myself reflected in that pretty glass. The piece probably dates from the 20’s or 30’s but is not art deco, it is colonial revival with pineapples on the side.
Every day before going out I try to put sunblock on my face and neck and lipstick (on my lips).
