I used to be a runner – but it’s been sporadic or non-existent over the last few years. On a whim I decided to train for my first half marathon. I began last week. Currently running 3 miles stopping only long enough for a splash of water (really need a better water bottle)at a 12 minute per mile pace. I’m doing this solo but I’ve signed up for a few 5k and 10k runs to give myself a few interim goals before the big day. I haven’t actually decided which half I’m doing as there are 3 at the end of January in my area but there’s still time. I’ve even subscribed to a runners magazine because I know that getting those articles in the mail will help keep me going.

How I did it: I set this goal because I wanted to make sure I had some sort of destination. What I found was that writing down specific goals like job titles, income brackets etc were really limiting. Sometimes you should just pick a general direction and trust in the unfolding. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Well - a grad school admissions essay forced me to put pen to paper and write it out but I'd already done a visual dream board of the things that make me happy. I recommend the visual for starters....it's less specific. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I put one foot in front of the other....and suprised even myself. Get a support system early on if you can pull a running buddy even better! I went to meetup.com and found a running group in my area. I didn't always train with folks from that group but was encouraged that others were doing the same half marathon as I was and I did see them at the race. Read how I did it…
