Become a professional film composer (read all 2 entries…)
rung by rung

I was going to express this as a resolution for 2013, but realized I need to be more specific about it. I’d really like to be completely free of my day job by June of this year (2013). And I’d like to have my income come completely from composing and other music endeavors by the same date.

I probably won’t publish it on here, but I need to work out exactly how that will play out—in specific numbers. I guess first I need to work out exactly what I need in income. Then what I currently earn from my day job (I have a general idea of these, but they’re both constantly changing). Then I can work out what I need to earn through composing gigs and other related gigs.

The good news is that I’ve made a little bit of headway this year. I actually did reduce the hours I’m working on my day job. It’s been a little tricky financially, but I feel so much better and have much more energy and time to direct to my main focus, which is composing gigs. I also got an on-going part-time composing gig: I write music for iPad games for a company that produces video game music. The pay isn’t great, but it feels like at least I’m now on the ladder, even if it is only the bottom rung. I do enjoy the work.

I’ve got to believe that I can get to those next rungs. Cheers welcome! :)

attend an Olympic event
Cheering on the US with 76,000 people

Well, I’m not in London right now, but I did get to see the final of the women’s soccer in the 1996 Olympics in Georgia. US won. Quite a thrill!

attend at least one concert at the Hollywood Bowl this summer (read all 2 entries…)
Made it!

Yay, I made it to the Hollywood Bowl this week. It is a wonderful experience; there’s something gratifying about the communal part of it—everyone together soaking up some soul-feeding music in a Southern California evening. Lovely!
