I hugged a tree once before, one night, by the sea. It felt great.

It would be cool the see the northern lights. I might look into a tour holiday in the near future.

Try out 43 Things (read all 2 entries…)
Couple of days in 2 years ago

I am a few days into trying to to use 43things.com consistently. I am enjoying it so far, and like the social aspect of it, as reading through other’s posts on our common goals really gets you motivated, and you pick up some great ideas. I am trying to be as honest with my goals as I can, in the hope that I’ll start doing what I really want, rather than what others want. The public aspect of it is a little daunting, and I worry about exposing myself to an audience (even a hypothetical one), but I will give it a go.

Technically, I like the fact I can link my entries to my blog (that I just recently committed to updating regularly) , so I will explore this a bit more.

Any cool tips on using 43things effectively are appreciated!

go to the gym regularly
Go to the gym regulary 2 years ago

So I am pretty regularly already, though illness has kept me away for a few weeks. I find that once I get into it regularly, it becomes very enjoyable, so I really should try to go. I find that even if I don’t work out too much, it is better to go along and keep regular.

I am aiming for at least 3 days a week, I previous had done a one day on one day off gym rotation, and I found it was pretty good for letting the body recover, so I want to get back to it.

write a blog
Regulary... 2 years ago

In my current month of trying to experiment and embrace web 2.0 I am trying to write a blog.

I have one set up on www.encyclopediamechanica.net , but it doesn’t have much on there, as I don’t write regularly.

I am going to try and be more consistent with my blogging, and also with updating my 43thing lists. I am hoping that doing so will reveal the hidden gold!

stretch more
Desk bound 2 years ago

My job chains me to a desk the whole working day, so I need to stretch more often, as sitting means my hamstrings tighten up, which leads to my back hurting etc. etc.

I owned the book The Genius of Flexibility: The SmartWay to Stretch and Strengthen Your Body in the past, but never really got a chance to use it (moved away, had to leave the book), but I did enjoy what I did, basically a form of resistance stretching.

An amazing resource on stretching is Stretching and Flexibility
Everything you never wanted to know
. Highly recommended.

Design and build my own house
A long time dream 2 years ago

Since I was a child, I have dreamt of designing and building a house.

For a long time I wanted to be an architect, and grew up planning to be one, but just before University, switched to Engineering. I enjoyed engineering, but decided it wasn’t for me, so went on the study and graduate in science and arts. But throughout it all I have wanted to buy some land somewhere, and design and build a house.

I am interested in green design, and sustainability, self-sufficiency, and enjoy modern architecture. The house I imagine is set into a hill, with thick walls for insulation, and light wells to let natural light in. Maybe too much of The Hobbit as a kid! More thoughts soon on this goal.

Do more study
And more regularly 2 years ago

I have a few exams coming up that I need to do for work, so I need to start studying more often, with regularity.

live in the wilderness
Escape 2 years ago

I often have the urge to escape from it all for a while, or a long while. Not really cut myself off, but just escape from the in your face city/town life. I dream of a secret base, like when I was a kid, a cave, mountain complex. Some where to recuperate.

network more with people
Embrace Social Networking 2 years ago

I want to network with more like minded peers, hang out with interesting and cool people. Multiply my inputs. I am keen to experiment with social networking sites, like this one, and see what happens. Not just for the novelty’s sake, but to see if they really can change my life.

Try out 43 Things (read all 2 entries…)
43 Things 2 years ago

I’ve known about the site for a while, but have never actually used it.

I recently decided to take advantage of a bunch of new web applications (web 2.0 and suspend my judgment on them for a while. I will just do as others do, and use them without overly analyzing or criticizing.

I will embrace them, and see where they go!

increase my income
Increase and diversify 2 years ago

I would like to increase my income, and add in additional income streams. I want to get away from relying on my wage as my sole income. I guess this means making some effort to save money then invest in funds etc. Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad made me realise that earning a wage does not necessarily equal making money.

be able to do chin ups
Chin ups! 2 years ago

I am pretty happy with how my fitness is progressing, but I have also not been as strong as I felt I could be in my upper body. I am keen to develop my strength a bit, so that I can do more chin ups.

buy a NAS
Network Attached Storage 2 years ago

Running out of hard drive space, and I have been looking for a solution.

I have a portable hard drive (usb caddy, very cool), but this time I am looking for something with some data protection (RAID of some description)

I have heard ReadyNAS mentioned, and will look into this.

The other option is to build a basic machine, running linux of xp, and put a RAID array in myself.

I will investigate further.

go to New York (read all 2 entries…)

I have been once for a few days, in 2001 and enjoyed it immensely. It is a short flight from London, so I have no excuses.

learn free running
Free Running/ Parkour 2 years ago

It certainly looks fun, but i think my fitness isn’t enough yet. There are quite a few people doing this type of thing in London, and I know of at least one acquaintance, so time to get training, and go a do it!

learn kung fu
Again 2 years ago

First entry on this 43things thing.

I was learning Kung fu a while ago, and enjoyed it, and have thought I should start up again. First step is to look for somewhere relatively local. I will also look at other martial arts.
