Actually, it was my kids idea to do it for me as a Father’s Day present and I LOVE it. I’ve even done a decent job maintaining it for the most part.

Been driving taxi for around six months now and I absolutely love it! My all time favorite job and one I look forward to going to most nights… Did I say nights? Yes! I drive twelve hour shifts from late afternoons into the wee hours of the morning. First time I’ve been a consistent night person. While I can’t say it will ever be my natural choice, I’m enjoying it and the people I meet through it as well. By the way, money driving taxi isn’t great but its not horrid either. I’d think you’d want to consider doing it from the experience standpoint rather than the financial one. Speaking of finances, I’m a lease driver meaning I pay to “lease” the cab from my company on a nightly basis, pay for my gas, and get to keep what I make beyond that. So, its more entreprenuerial than a typical job which suits me just fine. In general I’d say cabbies are an independent lot from what I’ve experienced thus far.
I just struggled whether to maintain as on of my goals writing a screenplay because I consider the theatrical play a “purer” artform. But I wonder if that immediately puts me in conflict with another of my stated goals which is to be less judgemental.
I guess beyond that the thing is that it seems a play is more likely to retain the influence of the writer whereas a screenplay is more at the hands of the director or in big budget instances, the producer, budget, editing, etc. Plays have some of those functions and roles as well of course but it seems to me that I’ve heard expressed in theatrical circles more of a desire to remain true to an author’s original work. In film it seems more of a rarity.
Anyway, I think the point for me whether play or screenplay is to actually get something written. Its the accomplishment of the task that should be key for me but often I fall victim to the expectations of outcome rather than that creative process itself.
