I done this a few times on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Sometimes a little lonely, but just get in there and talk to others. Carry some photos of your family, friends and home town. Take some postcards to give away. It is a great ice breaker to scatter photos/cards and show them off. Once people know you are on your own and where you are from you will make new friends quickly. Buying the GTD book is one thing, but acting on its advice and using it in everyday life is really what you want to achieve. I have read the book twice and attended two GTD seminars. It is wonderful inspiration for personal productivity.
