On my 3rd attempt at Couch to 5k I finally finished it. I think it is a great program that is challenging yet doable. This is what helped me.
1. I didn’t start c25k until I was consistently walking 30 minutes at a time several times a week.
2. I didn’t worry about speed.
3. I got good running shoes.
4. Since I did all the interval workouts on a treadmill, I wrote up a little time schedule of when to walk and run and used that to guide me.
5. I realized that the Ullrey podcasts weren’t my thing. I started listening to various running podcasts (see http://runningpodcasts.org/), which helped motivate and entertain me.
6. Having support helped. I participated in the forum at http://www.c25k.com.
7. When I had a little bout with injury I didn’t give up on the program; I knew I just had to rest and wait. I also got physical therapy.
8. I printed out the schedule and checked off each workout as I did it.
