Help my daughter select the right college. (read all 2 entries…)
Hendrix College 7 months ago

Six applications later and an easy decision for her! She wants to stay in state and to work towards becoming an elementary teacher so the answer was Hendrix College! I am so happy we have decided.

University of Arkansas 9 months ago

Well, we submitted our first application yesterday. This is not her first choice of a school, but it is the in-state selection… and we thought the easiest to complete. One down, 5 to go!

Closets DONE! 9 months ago

It is amazing we have given away over 25 kitchen garbage bags full of toys, clothes, office supplies, and other unwanted items. We filled a dumpster with trash!

Screened in porch: DONE
My Closet: DONE
Bathroom: DONE
Attic: DONE
Office: 2/3 Done
Bedroom: 2/3 Done
Living Room: DONE
Kitchen: 1/2 Done

We are so there! We will finish in the time frame and it feels great! Clutter feels awful.

The next big project will be the two sheds… and they will be done by January 1! YES!!!

Another good morning 1 year ago

Slept until 9, walked, ate a good breakfast, took my vitamins… then started working. There will always be work. LOTS OF WORK… but it doesn’t have to RULE my life!

Thank Yous 1 year ago

I have to say that writing thank you notes are the easiest! I sent one with a bill to my web provider, one to the optometrist that helped me get my dad new glasses in one day, and a sympathy card to someone at the vet who had to put their favorite dog to sleep. Easy breezy… cards.

Thank god for Netflix 1 year ago

I have had the great fun of watching Sex in the City in a somewhat marathon format… not all at once, but instead of watching anything else. WE missed this series when it was on TV because we were busy doing other things and I know the goal is really to stop watching TV, but what I really love is having control over what I am watching. More like… not just watch crap that is on the 4 channels that we currently get.

Mornings 1 year ago

I am, by definition, not a morning person. That is fine, but what is happening is that I am being overrun by OTHER PEOPLE in the morning. A typical morning starts with the phone ringing, then the cell phone ringing, the dog wanting out, super partner getting in the shower before me, daughter wanting something, another phone call… all this and I am not even dressed yet. So, my mornings end up not my own. They end up being controlled by everyone else. VERY frustrating. Also a horrible start to a new day. SO, I need a better way. I need to take control of my mornings. But how?

Little Princess Pink Bean Bag OUT 1 year ago

How easy it is to give away my daughters outgrown things! There is a fantastic 11 year old in town who a) adores all things pink and b) adores my daughter. So, old stuff meet new owner! Happy girls all.

Clothes OUT 1 year ago

I just called our local consignment store and they are accepting clothes for fall and I just cleaned out a huge amount of suits, blouses, and dress pants that I will never wear again. So, tomorrow after the Farmers Market I will be off to Berryville to bring my clothes. YEAH!

practice yoga everyday
yoga... i don't think so 1 year ago

Ok… the IDEA of doing yoga everyday is nice, but apparently it hasn’t moved past that. I wonder if it ever will. Perhaps I should put myself on a do it or give up plan. Perhaps yoga isn’t my thing right now… or ever.

Books to Book Sale 1 year ago

I am so happy that we finally took our first boxes of books to the library book sale. They collect books all year for a twice annual sale. People plan their vacations around these book sales they are so good. Hopefully our little donation will be helpful.

Salsa Contest 1 year ago

We went to the Farmers Market today to pick up the things we will need for the Salsa Contest at the market on Thursday. This year we are making a cucumber based salsa with Anaheim peppers, tomaotes, purple onions & cilantro. It should be wonderful. The trick I think will be to drain it for a long time.

Patrice said to me that we can do two things to support the market. Come and shop, is the easiest, but to make the greatest change would be to bring someone who hasn’t come yet. I think if they served coffee and had some tables to sit at people would schedule to meet friends there… and perhaps more people would come. Just a thought.

It is about local food… he says over and over in his cute french accent!

NOTE: WE CAME IN 6th PLACE AT THE SALSA CONTEST. NOT BAD!

Crinolins out 1 year ago

We had, because my sparkly girl loves puffy things, a HUGE crinoline that would go under a wedding dress. It was the ultimate play thing… but today it was decided that at age 17 it could give it to the thrift store. Oh we are on our way. One small step at a time to a decluttered house!

Decluttering has become a PRIORITY! 1 year ago

I can not stand living like a packrat any longer! The truth of the matter is our actual living areas look lovely. That is because everything is hidden in closets, under the stairs, shoved in the shed, or crammed in some other spot. It is time to stop this.

This all happened when 4 years ago we had 1 week to move from the house we were renting to this house that we bought. It was raining, we had to have friends help us pack, and I had no idea where to put anything. So we just shoved things in boxes and then piled them in closets.

There are boxes full of things that I have not seen for over 4 years.

Pathetic. SO, I am going to do this in incremental steps. 10 minutes a day with full days devoted to this. I am going to be ruthless. I will always get more stuff, so why hold onto this stuff.

My goal is to be done before December 1… just in time to decorate for the holidays.

For 21 Days I got up earlier! 1 year ago

I don’t know if this makes me a morning person, but I do know that I have accomplished this little goal. I feel ok. The crazy thing is I have been working until 1:00 in the morning and don’t feel too dazed. It is almost like I have tapped into some secret energy thing. Granted the coffee helps!

I am just SO proud of myself for trying to do this and I hope that it has now become a habit.

Not Watching TV 1 year ago

Well, if you work every night until 1:00am, like I have been doing, then watching TV isn’t an option. Not that I recommend working long hours like that either. I just have some very crazy deadlines!!! It is a good thing though. Work brings money brings less anxiety makes happy Jackie!

7:11 1 year ago

I have really come along way with the goal of getting up earlier. In fact, I think I have this down. I have done a few things to help: I have mostly given up watching TV, I have been keeping really busy in the evening, I have been just getting up when I wake up rather then allowing myself to fall back to sleep, and I have had real things that I wanted to do or get done in the morning. Granted, I am not YET a morning person, but I have achieved the goal to “get up earlier”. The best thing about this is that I have more energy. I guess the quantum physics people are right that energy begets energy!

Cultivate Sprouts
Sprouting Sprouts! 1 year ago

I just started doing this. I am using a mason jar that I had, some screen that the woman at the hardware gave me because it was such a small peice, and a mixture of salad sprouts from the health food store.

It is SO easy. I soak them in water overnight. Then every day for five days I rinse and shake the water out twice a day. They sit on my kitchen counter and look wonderful.

So, now I am designing a sprouting kit for kids to sell/give as gifts this winter. It will have the jar, screen, sprouts & directions all packaged together. Kids LOVE to grow things and how fun to GROW FOOD. I am SO EXCITED about this project. Email me if you would want one. jacqueline at moxieworks dot net.

Not really giving up... just changing 1 year ago

I really feel that eating locally is more important to me then becoming a vegetarian. We don’t eat a lot of meat anyway so this isn’t a huge issue. I care more about choosing the local produce or meat over something trucked 2000 miles. Read PLENTY a book about a Canadian couple that ate locally for a year if you want more information on Locavore’s!
