I smoked cigs for 8 years. I was totally addicted. First thing in the morning, cig. Last thing at night, cig. All day long my day was divided up into when I’d next get to smoke. I’d smoke more than a pack a day. I’d buy cheaper, less nutritous food because I had to buy cigs. I tried quitting a few times before. The last cold turkey attempt I had the most godawful withdrawal, I felt like I was in that scene in ‘Trainspotting’...horrible!! The patch finally did it for me (though it gave me horrid nightmares).
Its a new life, that’s for sure, because my old one completely revolved around the addiction. I understand the allure of smoking 100% and think of it fondly sometimes…it’ll catch you offguard…just one cig, you’re not addicted anymore, no big deal. NOPE! Not One Puff Ever!
I suggest: Oral substitutions! Try to be low-cal, but peanuts sooo helped me. I’d eat peanuts in the shell when I would normally smoke. I overdosed on mints also. Took up doodling on the phone instead of smoking, etc.
I AM 9 MONTHS SMOKE FREE! Trust me, this is really worth doing!
