I went veggie because it reduces global warming. At the time it seemed like a huge sacrifice to make, but in fact it was so easy! I used to say that I could never be a vegetarian, because I liked meat too much, but if you just treat it as off limits its fine, and there’s so much other great food to eat – I’d say going veggie has actually broadened the range of foods I eat. The other day when somebody accidently fed me chopped up bacon in a stew she thought was vegetarian I spat it out as soon as I chewed on it without even thinking “that’s meat” because it tasted so weird (I didn’t recognise it as bacon), and kind of repulsive. Luckily I was babysitting so the only person who saw me spit it out was 10 years old!

I don’t understand why people do that… why do vegetarians have to defend themselves for not eating meat? I went veggie only about 3/4 months ago now, and keeping off meat has been so much easier than I was expecting, but everyone’s reaction to it has been overwhelming. They seem to take offence and attack me for it. If anything it should be the other way round – I’m the one taking the moral decision, not them, but I would never criticise them for eating meat. The worst is when they look at your plate and make faces, like “that looks absolutely disgusting how can you eat it?”, when I know it’s delicious, but they can’t open their minds to new things. ~Sometimes it makes me want to cry … I’m happy with my decision, why can’t they just accept it? In contrast, though, all my veggie friends have been so lovely and supportive. I never realised how much they’d had to put up with. Do other people have this problem, or is it just when you first switch?
My acne was never particularly bad, but people should know that most teenage spots are actually acne, and one visit to the doctor’s can get rid of it. It’s so easy! I was prescribed antibiotics and I’ve never really had a problem since. JUST GO TO THE DOCTOR’S!! And sooner rather than later – I wish I’d gone earlier because though the acne’s gone, the scars are still there….
