I have been to many, many science fiction conventions. They, as a whole, are well worth attending. This is assuming that you like to read science fiction, or at least watch it, or like to hang out with geeks in general.

How I did it: First, I signed up for Apple's developer program and downloaded Apple's developer tools. This part is free. I then spent a few weeks playing around with xCode (the program you use to write all the code), and generally getting familiar with the development environment. I changed ideas a few times, (even went so far as to register the domain name for a different game, but I’ll build that one eventually). The game is called Go Tetris!, and is appropriately a cross between Go and Tetris. I chose to develop my game in Flash. It is now online and available for anyone to play: http://chesstris.com/
There have only been a hundred and ten or twenty years of film making. How many can there be? ;)
