I did this a week or so ago. When I came back to this site, I was surprised that I hadn’t listed it. It was really easy-I kept pulling ahead of the group without even trying-and let me get up close to the shore of the islands we were paddling through. I know there are a lot of maneuvers that I still have to learn, but straight-ahead paddling is pretty simple.
We went to some beautiful areas in the San Juan Islands—lots of seals (even babies), auklets and other birds, fish (duh!), gorgeous scenery, and practically no one else. The water was almost totally flat, too, and that surprised me.
Next step? Kayak camping on the islands!
