How I did it: We've been together for the better part of 11 years already, so our wedding was less the start of something completely new and more the celebration of what we've already accomplished and been through together. It was, I thought, a great excuse to have all of our close family and friends together in one place for a day.We were officially engaged for one year less a day, which was the perfect amount of time for us to save (which we di… Read how I did it…
51. Chuck Taylor shoes. I always have a black pair of them. This has been going on since about 7th grade. I realize that wearing the same shoes as I did when I was 12 isn’t necessarily great, but I can’t help it. They’re just happy shoes.
52. Jeans. Oh, denim. How I long for your embrace at the end of my workday.
53. Yoga pants. Oh, stretchy cotton blend. How I long for your embrace when I know I don’t need to leave the house again.
54. Timepieces. I must know the current time at any given moment and therefore have a love for watches and clocks. My current favourite is the watch made of typewriter keys I found on the internet. Functional can also be pretty.
55. My hair straightener. Isn’t technology marvelous? That way my too-curly-to-be-straight-yet-too-straight-to-be-curly hair can be tamed and I can present myself to the world in a somewhat acceptable manner. Also, it makes my hair so swishy!
I suppose that other than toast and fries, there might not be too many dishes more French than this. I’m not even sure I’ve ever eaten this soup before; if I have it was before I finished high school. At any rate, I’ve been dying to make if for a couple of weeks now, and Sunday was the perfect day to do it: woke up to the first snowfall and therefore didn’t want to spend too much time outside.
Though time-consuming, this is a very easy and very inexpensive recipe to make (even considering the 1/2 cup of sherry you need to make it). And it’s so delicious. I even went to my local Army & Navy shop and got the above bowls for $0.50 each just to make it more authentic. I topped our bowls with a slice of no-knead bread (fresh from my morning baking endeavour) and some grated Gruyère cheese. The best part is that the leftovers can be just as good as the initial serving: just pop more bread and cheese on top and stick it under the broiler.
