I finally ran a small blitz chess tournament for my chess club. Ten folks played, and all had a great time.

I have a spare room devoted to my hobby things, but it requires revision. I want to have a spare room that feels like home, only a home much cooler and more comfortable than I really am.
I play tournament chess, and have a current rating in “slow” chess of 1690 or so. I’ve been at least 1600 for over twenty years in “regular” chess. When I play blitz chess on the Free Internet Chess Server, my rating hovers between 1350 and 1550.
Although ratings are just a rough measure of skill, it intrigues me that while most people rate higher on FICS than in their over the board play, my experience is the opposite. I had set 12/31/06 as a “deadline” to achieve this goal, but as the year wanes, and I am in the 1500s, I set up this entry to make this a longer-term goal.
