If you decided to use AVR family it is very easy to do the project using an AVR. It has the ability to PWM Control a motor. It is capable of providing you with most versatile timer/ interrupts which can help you in order to count the number of motor’s revolution. and it has plenty of processing power to help you with the PID control mathematics.
