Make art every day during Lent
Untitled 8 months ago

My friend Janet proposed this as a practice for herself and everyone who wants to join her this Lent. More here: http://community.livejournal.com/lentart/

I learned long ago that my life is happier, richer, more meaningful, you name it when I’m regularly doing art. And yet I seldom do. So this is goosing me into making it a practice for forty days. So far, so good: I worked on a collage for about half an hour last night, Ash Wednesday. I can already look at my day today, the second day of Lent, and see that I am busy and when am I going to do any art and blah blah blah but you know what? I have promised myself I’m going to do this, and I brought my sketchbook, and I’m going to do it today and every day of Lent.

You don’t have to be Christian to join. I’m not, but I think the practice of Lent is very beautiful, and Janet has made it much more meaningful than “give up chewing gum.”

Heh. I didn’t come close to doing this before my daughter’s birth, but she is now 2 and I’m a couple of weeks away from the new end-date I set. I’m behind, but I’ve learned that I can get through hundreds of e-mails at a time if I’m brave and ruthless, so I know I’m going to make it.

I have assigned myself the job of dealing with & deleting 220 messages every Wednesday and have been sticking to it. I also need to keep up with the incoming messages, which is hard.

This ties into the “become a parent” goal. I need to have my office all organized by the time I go on maternity leave. (Then I can return to fresh chaos when I come back.)
