graduate with honors
Untitled 1 month ago

My GPA after freshman year is 3.6. I transferred to another university, and I’m not sure how I’ll do here.

To graduate with honors from my school:

summa cum laude = 3.90-4.00
magna cum laude = 3.80-3.89
cum laude = 3.67-3.79

I think it’s very possible to raise my 3.6 to something else.

Plus, if I get into the civil engineering honors program, I “graduate with honors” as well. I’m not sure what the difference is, if there is one.

I can get into the CEE honors program with a 3.5 minimum GPA, and some other requirements, sometime in junior or senior year. This sounds very possible.

But because I transferred, I can’t get into the “University Honors” program because I have too many credits. I don’t think this gives much, if any, recognition at graduation anyway, that wouldn’t really be fair to transfer kids.

go to a football game

I want to go to a Portland State Vikings home game in PGE Park. I’m definitely not a sports person, but we get free tickets. I’m worried that since I work on the weekends, I won’t be able to see one this season.

learn to play the piano better
Untitled 1 month ago

I taught myself pretty much everything I know. I started in about 3rd grade, using the books that my mom and aunt got when they took lessons, and my grandma’s piano. In the summer between sixth and seventh grade, my dad bought me a Yamaha PSR 7 keyboard at a yard sale, complete with a bunch of books, from incredibly basic to medium difficulty. Then I inherited most of my grandma’s sheet music when she went to the Alzheimer’s care facility.

I can play all of the songs in the Phantom of the Opera Big Note book, a few from the regular Pirates of the Caribbean sheet music, among a lot of other, easier songs. Plus I can stumble through ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’...the guitar solo on piano sounds pretty cool (right before the “opera part”).

It’s really hard for me to teach myself if I have no idea what the final result is. I already know that the way I’ve learned has set me up with some handicaps if I ever do take lessons. I mainly just want to be able to play this song that is part of my grandma’s sheet music – “Mountain Shower”. I have no idea what it’s supposed to sound like, it’s not really a song, more like “rain” then “lightning”, etc. I think if I could play that, I would be pretty happy with my skills.
