I inherited my father-in-law’s mandolin. It’s not fancy, but I’ve learned to tune it (got a little electronic tuner), and I’m practicing some simple chords and scales. I think I’ll take it to the music store for a little fix-up and to see if they can recommend a teacher. There’s quite a lot on the internet, but I’d like to make sure I start with good technique.

One thing I’ve done to help myself eat healthier is to start using a Bento Box and bringing my lunch to work regularly. Instead of eating out 5 days a week, I’m down to just once or twice. A Bento box is a small Japanese lunch box, so it’s automatic portion control, and it makes bringing lunch fun! I have a couple very cute ones and I try to make at least half of my lunch green vegetables and the rest lean protein and whole grains. I still have a ways to go, but one meal a day is well under control :o)
