How I did it: I had been dieting for about a year with insignificant results. Then I started taking taekwondo classes, which I absolutely loved, and the weight just fell off. I have always hated working out, but I enjoyed taekwondo in spite of the exertion. Read how I did it…
How I did it: First I watched everyone else who wanted to try and tried to learn from their mistakes. The brick was supported on each end by a concrete block, so I just did a downward palm strike through the middle. Read how I did it…

Ok, this is a somewhat dumb, redundant goal since I will have to lose more than 5 pounds in order to get out of the heavyweight sparring division. But I’ve had that goal or some variation thereof for nearly two years now. Maybe aiming lower will be more effective.
Starting Weight: 189.6
Goal Weight: 185 (Cheating by 0.4 pounds for simplicity!)
I was sparring somebody far less experienced than me, but it was a live match, not part of practice or during class, so that counts!
I have been working with one of my instructors to predict and react to attacks sooner. I got lucky because my opponent used the same attack repeatedly—a shuffle and a roundhouse. I was able to respond with a spin hook kick to the head.
I did it twice. The first time I missed because I was trying so hard to keep the contact very light. The second time I did land the kick very gently on the side of the head.
Now to apply it against more advanced opponents!
