How I did it: Studied. Alot. And then tried to maintain some calm during the test. Not an awesome experience, but I'm glad to be finished, despite the fact that I probably didn't need to in order to get into the graduate program. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Actually, while I've always wanted to follow through on this goal, my friend i'm sharing with did all the work. now I'm reaping the benefits. Wayward Seed Farm in Marion, Ohio, is our farm, and they're incredible. Learning to cook lots of wonderful things and how to can, too. Last week, they were giving away boxes of cherries that were going to go bad the next day, so we canned them! So excellent. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Started walking with a girlfriend who lives in my building. We meet up and have coffee and then go around the neighborhood until we're tired. Probably not a ton of calories burned or anything, but wonderful to be outside, and better to spend time with friends walking than eating... Read how I did it…

at the suggestion of Jeffrey Steingarten, I searched (and searched and searched) for what he calls the primo Thai cookbook on the planet in English: Cracking the Coconut. Finally found one abused copy in Manhattan at the Strand, after looking for months. It is perfect, though one could wish for photos. The author spends most of the pages explaining why Thai food is worth cooking, what it means to do it well, and what the ingredients should be (when it’s good to substitute and when it’s not worth it, for example). Totally helpful.
totally signed up for my test – the second week in October. So excited!
