I’m using the Twitter tool tweetwhatyoueat.com , since I’m on Twitter all the time anyway. I’m going to try, for the month of January, to heavily limit the white flour and sugar, and just see if that makes a difference in my weight and/or how I feel, and reassess at the end of the month.

How I did it: I biked a 7.5-km-each-way route in St. John's, Newfoundland for 5 summers, May to September. (Changed offices to near my house, so now I have a ten-minute walk!) It took about the same amount of time as the bus, even the direct route, and was cheaper, healthier, and more enjoyable, especially in good weather. Read how I did it…
It’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I’m still playing! In the interim I’ve gotten through Suzuki books 1 and 2 and am 3 songs into Book 3. Haven’t started vibrato or shifting yet, but it’s coming up soon. I’ve also continued with the string ensemble – we’re tackling Elgar’s Serenades for Strings right now – and have picked up a bit of Newfoundland fiddle from visits to the local “slow” session. Looking forward to the Atlantic Canada Suzuki Institute next month, where I’ll get five solid days of coaching in a quartet/chamber group.
I’ve joined a French chorale at the local French school! Not only are we singing in French, but all the direction etc. is in French (not to mention the chatter – amateur choirs seem to be universally sociable!) so I’ve got a mini-immersion for a couple of hours a week.
I also recommend Radio-Canada’s podcasts at http://www.radio-canada.ca/radio/baladodiffusion/ . That last word is the translation for “podcasting”: what a wonderful word!
