Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Giving and Giving

I am adopting 3 families for Christmas. I’m going to buy gifts for the whole family and a holiday dinner. No one will know it was me.

shhhhhhhh…

tell people I love them more often; you never know what can happen
I Will Do This Starting NOW!

At 330am on Thursday our very dear friend Scott Chestnut died. We’d spent a couple of days by his bedside, hoping and praying for a change in his condition. Scott lost his battle with alcoholism. He died of liver and kidney failure.

We told him we loved him before we left him on Wednesday. He should have known how we felt before that day.

lower my blood sugar and keep it low so I can get off my Diabetes meds...
On Monday the 22nd of September

...my life changed. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I am now on medicine to help lower my blood sugar and I have to monitor my blood sugar 6 times a day. I have to go on a low to no carb diet. I have already lost 4 pounds since Monday just by giving up regular soda pop. I have lowered my numbers by almost 50 points. This is a start… I will keep going until I don’t need to take meds anymore. I know that I can do this…

Looking Back

I deserve all that I have. I deserve my family, my husband and my kids. My ancestors have banked favor for me and I am living off of their faith and good deeds… thank you.

give my mom everything she needs and wants
Mom is Coming to California

I am flying my Mom out for her 60th birthday. I asked her what she wanted or needed the most for her birthday and she said, “A break!” and she laughed and said, of course in perfect motherly fashion, “I don’t need anything. I have everything I need.”

I decided, along with my mother, that she needed to be with me and her grandchildren for her 60th birthday. She agreed and so I bought her the ticket and she’ll be here for the month of October! I’m so excited! She’s so excited! Which means she’ll also be here for Halloween.

We’ll be spending her birthday at Carmel in a nice bed and breakfast. So yes, I’m giving her a break for her birthday!

walk more; i will be healthier, peaceful and happier.
Hiking with the Kiddos and JC

Today was a great day. The kids and I, along with my really really beautiful and dear friend Jocelyn went for a hike today. We went to Las Trampas and hiked the Creek Trail. It was a good 45 minute walk. I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome it felt to be out in nature, surrounded by trees and bugs and wind. It was beautiful. We have decided to do this every other Monday. I can’t wait!

Done!

Just when I thought it wouldn’t happen before September it happened! I’m so excited!

What could possibly make me this happy and excited, you ask? Well, for the last year I have been doing serious potty training with the boy child. He could pee all day in the potty but he would not poop in the potty. No amount of bribery worked (yes I bribed). Animal crackers, M&M’s, chocolate kisses, toys, etc. We worked and we tried but he didn’t want to do it. He even said he would not do it until he was four. When I would ask him if he wanted to go poop in the potty he would ask me if he was still three, when I said yes he’d say it wasn’t time yet. OY!

So last Wednesday we were at the park. We had a nice little picnic and then they were playing on the play structure when all of a sudden Jake says, “Mama, I think we have to go home because I have to go poop. I need my diaper.” (I forgot to mention that Jake has been wearing underwear for weeks and weeks now because he is pee trained.) I said, “Well, if we go home right now we won’t go to Target or the grocery store. We will just stay home after you’re done.” He thought about it for a sec and then said, “I think I’d like to try to poop in the potty here at the park.” I said, “Okay, let’s go!” We all piled into the restroom and he sat on the potty. And he pushed and he said, “NOPE not going to work. I need a diaper.” I told him to be patient and just sit there a bit longer and that he didn’t have to push that hard, when it was ready it would just come out… So he sat a couple of more seconds and out came the poop! He was SOOOOO excited! I was excited! EVEN Katy was excited! We were clapping and high fiving! It was super cute! Then Katy screamed, “Jake! I’m SOO proud of you!!” and he said, “I’m so proud of myself too!” WOW! I was just the proudest mama in the world that day… Everything is going to be peachy keen! I can just feel it!

Jake!

Well, Jake is now night trained and pee trained. I’m still having a hard time getting him to go poop in the potty. He knows when he has to go and asks me for a pull up, which is good but UGH!

If anyone has any tips on getting him to poop in the potty, I’m listening…

plant a garden with my kiddos (read all 6 entries…)
This Goal is Complete

This goal is going on the done list… Today we ate our first strawberry grown in our garden. We were so proud of that one moment. We all ate part of the strawberry and it was the sweetest one I have ever tasted in my life. Maybe it was just all the love it had in it…

The garden is growing and we are thrilled!

Yesterday's Planting

Yesterday we planted out first 6 cherry tomato plants. I was going to plant the strawberries but we ran out of light.

This is so exciting. This morning the kiddos ran out and looked to see if there were tomatoes on the plants yet. That was precious of course.

More planting and updating to come.

Weeding and Growing

We had a ton of rain in January and the first half of February. The last 2 weeks have been beautiful. I began to weed the garden. The rain left a lot of our little weedy friends. The kids and I pulled weeds and we discovered that our hydrangeas are growing! We have one tulip coming up and a handful of narcissus too! We are so excited. Pictures to come. Oh, the other thing, we notices a ladybug on one of the hydrangeas. I think that’s lucky isn’t it?

My House is One Big Dust Bunny

I really need to be better about this goal. This is really something that I want to/need to/should do but I can’t get passed the tiredness after we get the kiddos to bed. OY!

Watch "The Warriors"
One of my Favorite Movies EVER!

My brother and I watched this movie many many many times, first at the drive in, then at the theater and then on HBO or Showtime.

It is still a great movie.

forgive myself even if no one else can
Small Step

I have hurt many people. I know this. I haven’t been able to forgive myself because I am so ashamed of some of the things I have done.

Yesterday I took a small step in my own forgiveness.

Music is very very important to me. Music is everything and often times defines moments in my life or relationships with people. When I have hurt someone, I eliminate the music that reminds me of them so I don’t have to think of the hurt I caused.

Yesterday I listened to some music that reminded me of someone I hurt very badly and I began to accept the hurt that I caused them and I will soon have the courage to forgive myself.

I think it’s a good step… But that’s just me.

Still Proving To Be Harder Than Expected

Apparently I have not proved myself worthy of my family. I am still struggling with this goal. Perhaps worthiness is in the eye of who is on the outside looking in but for me, I want to feel like I deserve my family. Right now, I just don’t.

My Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes

Tonight I planted my first plant in honor of the woman who taught me to want to love gardening as much as she does. I planted an upright Rosemary. My moms name is Rosamaria. It is dedicated to her! She’s going to be so happy when I tell her! I can’t wait!

Can You Dig It??

A line from one of my favorite movies? Perhaps. Something I did today to start this goal and make it a reality? Most Def!

On Sunday the husb measured the backyard so that we can make our family garden. Today we went to the garden store and we bought organic compost and some bulbs. We’re going to start small. But when March comes we will plant our veggies. It’s going to be so exciting!!

This evening, after I put dinner in the oven, my kid sister and I went out for about 30 minutes or so and broke up the dirt. It was hard and I hadn’t done that kind of work in so long. All I have been doing lately is raising babies. It felt good to be out in the dirt and feel the heat on my face.

The moon was beautiful tonight incidentally. It was like my reward for getting this garden started!

Oops I Did It Again

I worked out 2 days in a row. I will work out tomorrow and then it will be 3 times this week. I should try to do more than the minimum but it’s a start!
