How I did it: My kitchen is actually what used to be a long narrow back porch. It has the original porch ceiling and sloping floor to allow for rainwater runoff. It had no less than four different wall coverings and colors in several textures. My budget was little to nothing and I have been mulling this idea since we moved into this house in 2001. It really needs major constructive work which is beyond my means, so what I achieved was only cosmetic, but… Read how I did it…
I am content. I have found the answers I needed to find. In addition, I have learned that often there is a contradiction between what a person believes and how they actually conduct their life. I think this can be true because while what we believe is the ideal, what we are given to live with is not. To live according to one’s beliefs requires commitment to live consciously in every moment, in every decision. It often requires walking a lonely path when it would be easier, more fun, feel better to follow the crowd, which is what I have been doing for too long.
I am back on the path now. I have been angry and impatient with where my life has taken me, when, had I been living true to myself instead of listening to the siren calls, I would have embraced my situation; reveled that I had the opportunity to live true to my conscience; rejoiced that I could be me.
I will waste not one minute more being angry or impatient. I am content. I am happy. I will rejoice. And if my life doesn’t always mirror my beliefs, have no doubt, I am doing the best I can with what I have been given.
I continue to research the writings of Tolstoy as I continue to find more and more of myself in his writing and thinking.
I came across a web site where his writing was being used in reference to Obama’s presidential campaign and the thinking of liberals.
The actual article by Tolstoy, Letter to Liberals, offered a refreshing idea to the current mix, and his thinking doesn’t necessarily only apply to liberals.
Tolstoy is helping me put answers to the many questions I have had, even affirming many of the thoughts I have.
