Chapter 5 - Just Go For It! 2 years ago

This chapter is very light (6 pages) and just gives you the confidence that you won’t make a mistake if you jump right in. Loose constructs, knowing you’ll make mistakes, and knowing the question marks will likely disappear as you move forward help instill confidence in the new developer. Good stuff!

“We could mess around all day hacking together simple test applications, but that won’t help us pay the bills.”

You can’t beat a book that’s interested in helping you pay the bills.

Great Chapter 2 years ago

In this chapter, if you go slow enough, you learn that a URL maps to an application on a server. That url contains enough to help Rails call a controller within which are your actions (methods).

Rails is namespace sensitive (at least by convention) so if you name things properly, you have some “free productivity” (saw that term somewhere).

So I got through the whole chapter and did all the exercises. It was fun and I can definitely say that I know A LOT more than I did before I added this item to my 43 things list.

I did the learning math 2 years ago

If it takes me about 4-5 minutes per page just to read – not to mention following along in code, the Agile Web Development with Rails book will take about 72 HOURS! to finish.

So, I’m breaking these goals down by chapter. I’m on page 34 right now (in Chapter 4) and my goal is to get this done.

(I could say using 43 things – a rails app in itself – is research, but it’s really procrastination ;-)

Day 10 WOW!! 2 years ago

Well, 10 Days have come and gone.. this was the easiest cleanse I’ve done.

Here’s a brief re-cap.
1. I skipped the tea on the last two evenings.
2. I skipped one SWF due to an AM appointment
3. When I got enough sleep I felt great
4. When I didn’t get enough sleep, I didn’t feel great
5. When I forgot to drink enough lemonade, I felt hungry, else I felt fine.
6. I lost a lot of weight and feel/look thinner (in the range of 16lbs I think (but i know most will come back)
7. I’d recommend it to anybody who wants a challenge (mental and physical)
8. I exercised daily while on the MC (long walks.. nothing too strenuous) I recommend exercise for sure.. it helps your mind.

More to come as I finish this episode.

Day 9 - Can Tell It's Coming to an End 2 years ago

I was telling a friend about the cleanse (she’s a nutritionist) and how the evening tea was starting to produce undesirable effects (unrestful sleep mostly) she said I’m probably getting the max benefit and I should be preparing to transition.

So, on day 9, I don’t feel like I need to go forever. I’ll finish up today and tomorrow on the LA and then OJ on Saturday. It’s been very powerful to have such tight control on something as powerful as food and eating habits.

From this, I’ll likely give up my $3/ day Latte habit in exchange for heightened sensitivity and more steady energy throughout the day. I’m loving what this cleanse has opened for me in terms of awareness. I probably need about half the amount of food I’ve grown accustom to eating. I think this will make exercise more enjoyable, sleep more restful, and my energy more steady.

I’ll report more over the coming weeks.

If you’re thinking about doing this.. do it. Like Chip said, it’s only 10 days.

Thanks Stacy for recommending this cleanse!

Day 8 Begins with the Tea 2 years ago

Well, I can’t tell exactly because I didn’t weigh along the way. And of course, scale accuracy is in question. However, the difference between the last time I weighed in and tonight was about 16 pounds. So 10 is probably water and the rest the SWF?

Feeling good and am enjoying sharing in this community. Is this MC a California thing? I can totally see my friends in NY accusing me of that.

Day 7 - This is EASY! 2 years ago

Today I woke up tired.. it might have been the long walk yesterday and not enough recovery. Not sure. However, I took an even longer walk today and didn’t do my SWF until I got up from a nap. The flush was very productive and now I’m working away… feeling great about how close I am to the 10 day goal.

For some reason, I’m not sure if I’m going to stop at 10 days. I’ve trimmed down a bit, I’m not feeling any negative effects of no solid food.. and just wonder what the real cutoff might be.

Anybody else feel like you could live on this lemonade?

Pictures to NOT look at while on the Master Cleanse 2 years ago

http://sfsurvey.com/rd.asp?r=3491#823

I ate at this place right before I started my Master Cleanse. Here are the photos from that night. Uh.. I guess all I have to say is.. with a cleanse under your belt, there are lots of benefits. With this double pepperoni pizza under your belt, and the cheesecake, and the tiramisu, and the espresso.. and the mousse..

Day 6 is going great. I got a little distracted there. But I’m okay.

Keep going everybody. You can go have Pizza anytime. You can’t always finish something like a 10 day cleanse.

Day 6 beginning 2 years ago

I accidentally added this as a comment to somebody else’s post.

Here’s the insight I have so far.

It might be good to begin this cleanse on a Saturday, so the weekend comes and goes quickly. Sunday landing on day 5 of my cleanse was interesting. My son and I drove around and all I saw was restaurant after restaurant. Anyway I made it and now time for the tea to begin my day 6.

As for the SWF, I don’t find it to bad. If I tell myself it’s a broth, it’s easy to get down. However, my wife did notice how quickly the SWF takes effect.

My positive is that I haven’t felt hungry as long as I’m drinking the lemonade. It’s quite tasty. However, my son’s chinese food was smelling really good tonight.

It’s amazing how much energy one has on this cleanse. Though I have been much more tired on this than normal, it’s likely because of the cleaning going on.

Good luck to all. Please share any positive results!

Master Cleanse Day 1 2 years ago

After committing to the cleanse last night (I told my sister-in-law who recommended it that she’d get $100 if I didn’t finish) I was ready to go.

Tips: 1. Smell or taste some lemon immediately while doing the SWF. I see people not doing it becuase it’s “disgusting” so this might help.

2. Don’t eat dinner before you begin the cleanse. It might make it easier than coming off a HungryMan dinner.

3. Do be productive doing other things you enjoy. It’ll take your focus off your cravings.

Since we started the 10,000 pushups in 100 Day 4 years ago

Since we started, we were pretty consistent. What has happened, however, is that pushups have become part of our routine. Some friends are now encouraging each other to get involved at http://www.pushupchallenge.com

No minimums required to participate. However, if you want to feel like part of a group of people doing something active to be more fit, you’ll like this. Start with 1 or 100, all are welcome.

210 pushups today 4 years ago

I haven’t been 100% consistent, but I notice when I get rest in between days, I am stronger.

TOday, I did various sets that added up to 210 pushups. Tomorrow is about the 3 month mark and I’ve been consistent.

Awesome!!

exercise regularly
Some exercise is better than NONE 4 years ago

If you can lay on your stomach, put your hands up near the sides of your chest, then push up, you’re doing one of the more productive exercises.

Most of us need to start with only a few. But it’s amazing how a few repetitions like this and in a few days, you’re doing 10, 20 per set.

Join the pushupchalleng at www.pushupchallenge.com This would be considered blatant self promotion if I was promoting anything other than a place we can encourage each other.

No personally identifying information is required but you can make a comment. Come add your entry and let’s all exercise a bit more.

PushUpChallenge.com was inspired by 43things and the people on this site.
