i’m getting the hang of the maillard effect, as well as braising. i’m also getting more confident in making my own marinades off the cuff. still struggling with synchronizing meal planning and grocery/sale coordination…and my cookbooks are in one neat, tidy spot near the kitchen counter now. i’ve also cooked more for big groups of people, and under time and space constraints/stress. so i’m getting there, slowly but surely.
mark bittman, ask metafilter, and online recipe organization have been my saving graces.

actually, i got a 20gig clickwheel music-only ipod instead, for (freakily enough) about the same price. i got it like my first, 1st generation ipod…a refurb straight from apple, with their 1 year warranty and all accessories, packaged like new. my 1st generation ipod’s connective filaments near the firewire plug finally went completely loose (a well documented design flaw in the originals…) and need to be resoddered.
it’s going to be strange to have so much space. i’m so used to painfully pruning down so that i can fit my current rotation on my 5gig one. mm.
