Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

- The Robots.

8 years of running

_Todays run: 10,5K semi-cross. First part trough th park up and down, offroad, second part asphalt.
Weather conditions: In between two thunderstorms. 22 degrees C. Time: 67min40sec._

I’m running for 8 years now, and I still haven’t run a marathon. I ran a total of 5630K, from Utrecht to Tehran. :)

I set my goal to high

_Today’s run: a calm 5K.
Weather conditions: harsh. Sticky, humid, Thunder in the background. 17 degrees C. Time: 30.07 min._

I think I’ve set my goals to high. I wanted to run a marathon, my first, but not only that, I wanted it to run in 4hours and a bit. So I ran 10k/h and that I can do for 20 kilometres. Once I managed 25. But not further. So now my goals is going to be to run a marathon.
As I have to work one day less, it is easier to maintain some sort of trainingschedule. I printed one and uploaded it into my blackberry.

Well well well,

I’ve got my collegues as far to go to a themepark for our anual outing. There is a rollercoaster there, so opportunity arises…

Ride a roller coaster

Also a thing I want to do for a long time. I really want to ride an old timber one, but we don’t have them here, so I take what is there I guess.

it sounds quite simple, just go to one and ride. But I do hate noise and crowds and especially amusement parks. I’ve only been to one my entire live and that was when I was five. Way to young to ride a roller coaster offcourse, so instead I rode a donkey.

hold a snake
hold a snake

I want this for a long time. I’ve a strange kind of likeness for animals I guess. I like snakes, and spiders and salamanders. I’m affraid of dogs and horses. :) Well, then again, do like the softness of cats and fluffyness of sheep.

glide (read all 2 entries…)
Let's get into this again.

Firstly, I will investigate where I can glide and how to get there.

change the world (read all 3 entries…)
I did it (well at least for some people)

I met this single mom who was abandoned by her husband who took literally everything. So there was nothing at all, no stove, no beds, no matrasses, no washing machine, no money, really nothing. The kids where placed in a foster home by a judge, till the basic necessities where met.
So I went on the net, visiting all kinds of get stuff for free and second hand websites to get beds, matrasses, a stove and a washing machine, went to the store to buy blankets and stuff, got someone to drive a van and we went on a drive through the country to get all the stuff.
We connected everything, mum and us build the beds. The week after there was a case at the courthouse where the judge verdicted that the children could live with their mother again, first for a trial period, and now it is made permanent.
I will probably never see the family again, but it was nice to do something that changed the world for them.

It's spring at last!

The winter is till a time I run less, or, shorter distances. 10K’s much. This was a winter with much rain, much wind, a temp just above zero. Not the weather that makes you run, when looking out of the window making a decision what to do this day.
But now spring has arived and this week I ran 50K in total. 14K on sunday, 16 K on wednesday and 18K’s today.

Learn Japanese (read all 2 entries…)
Japanese

The next courses will be this fall (the spring courses have allready started)

I’ve downloaded a Japanese learning course from the internet to learn some words and stuff allready. And to see whether or not I can do this internetcourse on a regular basis. Otherwise a paid course isn’t very usefull.

Dance in the rain (read all 2 entries…)
Done it yesterday!

I came out of the cinema and it was raining cats and dogs outside and storming. The cinema has a large square next to it, so I took the opportunity to dance in the rain.

I got all joyful and vibrant, it gave me energy for the rest of the evening.
