explore the neighborhoods in my city
Lots to see and do 4 years ago

Wow, I’ve already gotten a cheer for this, so it’s time to write an entry.

Chicago is divided into 77 official community areas (list at the bottom of this post), which are divided more or less officially into more than 100 different neighborhoods. I think I may tackle them one community area at a time. This project has been on my mind for years, but was most recently inspired by a trip to Seattle, where I really enjoyed just poking around the different neighborhoods. Therefore, my exploration of Chicago may initially be biased towards neighborhoods with fun shopping.

The neighborhoods of Chicago are fairly small, very walkable, and host to a huge variety of different ethnicities and nationalities, so there is a lot of fun to be had with this project.

buy enough wine to keep my wine rack full
6-bottle rack, plus 1 bottle in the fridge 4 years ago

I went to CostPlus World Market and browsed for a good long while. I read the descriptions, and bought things that looked good (knowing a little bit about my own taste) and had good reviews. I spent $15/bottle max, as that store is a good resource for inexpensive wine. I’m glad to have wine in the house whenever I might want it, and am drinking wine (and therefore learning about it and about my own tastes) more often. Plus, it was enjoyable to give myself a big block of time to just browse the store and learn from reading wine descriptions!

organize my apartment
Everything has a place! 4 years ago

This week, I finally finished. Every single thing in my apartment and storage locker has a defined place, and almost all of them are in it. It’s wonderful to not have stuff lying around on the floor!
